See I'm still here! I gave up for a bit because there was nothing interesting to write about pertaining to guitars in the iOS world. Seemed the whole guitar app scene had pretty much died in the arse ... and it has ... but here's a little ray of sunshine.
IK Multimedia have made one of their amp simulators free until September 8. Sure they say its the full version, which means there's still tons more to buy if you actually want the FULL version, but it comes with 3 Amp sims which are geared toward acoustic guitars ... that is, they are very clean. Each amp has, EQ and effects ( reverb, delay, flanger, chorus ) built in, but you can create other processing chains with 4 insert slots which provide more EQ's, Compression (a free download for registering), a 12-string simulator and an "Acoustic Body" simulator. Of course more effects can be purchased ( it's IK....).
I really like clean electric guitars so I plugged in my trusty Strat and was pleased with tones I could get out of the provided models. Very clean, very responsive and lots of fun. Of course it doesn't turn your axe into a hollow body, it's meant to have an acoustic plugged into it (preferably with IK Multimedias Acoustic Rig pick-up system...), but it does make for some nice sounds and is absolutely worthwhile downloading.
The tuner works ... theres a drum looper built in which confused me no end ( I think you have to use it with the 8 Track tape recorder which if you want more than one track and is $20 .. LOL ) but I can see the intent: to be able to quickly piece together a backing track. I wish someone would make an app which just did that! Also on in-app sale is a performance looper.
For free, go and get it ... but at the full price of $7.99 the buyer should at least get the looper. As a purchase the 8-Track is meh...
